What to expect with Installation FAQs

Please get in touch with your local Amtico retailer for details of local approved Amtico fitters/installers.

As a guide, we suggest ordering 10-20% more than the floor area to ensure ample stock for strips, corners and angles that will require additional cuts. We do, however, strongly recommend purchasing your LVT from an Amtico retailer, as our warranties are only valid on floors purchased through our network of recognised retailers and installed by an Amtico endorsed or fully trained fitter.

Our retailers will be able to quote accurately based on your room measurements and requirements.

When you discuss your new floor with an Amtico retailer, they’ll ask questions about the room to make sure you’re getting not only the best product for your lifestyle but also an accurate quotation.

Amtico LVT is glued down and needs to be laid onto an even, dry and clean surface, so the installer will consider the condition of your subfloor. Our Click Smart collection isn’t glued down and can be laid on top of an existing level floor.

Upon delivery, you’ll need to take the flooring out of its packaging, separate it and leave it to adjust to room temperate for at least 24 hours before installation.

Just to note, we do recommend purchasing and organising installation of your floor through an Amtico retailer, as our warranties are only valid on floors purchased through our network of recognised retailers and installed by an Amtico endorsed or fully trained fitter.

We recommend that Amtico LVT is installed by a professional fitter, someone who’s Amtico endorsed or fully trained. They understand the intricacies of the material and how to achieve perfection. Our network of Amtico retailers can advise on all aspects of design and product choice, as well as arranging for your new floor to be professionally installed.

Yes, it can – as long as the floor is dry, hard, level, smooth and free from any cracks. It’s really important that the concrete is prepared by a professional floor installer, as any imperfections may show through to your Amtico floor, affecting the final finish. Our network of Amtico retailers can advise on this and arrange for your new floor to be professionally installed.

LVT is typically permanently glued down using adhesive that’s suitable for the environment its laid in. For a perfect finish, LVT must be installed onto a surface that’s level, dry and clean. Laying an LVT floor is different from laying laminate, where a ‘loose-lay’ click system is often used.

We recommend that Amtico LVT is installed by a professional fitter, someone who’s Amtico endorsed and/or fully trained to a recognised national standard. They understand the intricacies of the material and how to achieve perfection. Our network of Amtico retailers can advise on all aspects of design and product choice, as well as arranging for your new floor to be professionally installed.

Click Smart is the only Amtico LVT collection that isn’t glued down. This has prefixed underlay and is a quick and easy ‘loose-lay’ click system.

Yes – Amtico can be laid on floorboards. Any loose boards will need to be firmly nailed down and damaged boards replaced. It might be necessary to plane the boards and/or level them with a suitable compound before covering with plywood, following guidance. If your floorboards are particularly springy or ‘give’ when you walk on them, they’re probably not suitable as a base for Amtico, unless the necessary remedial work is carried out. Our network of Amtico retailers can advise on this and arrange for your new floor to be professionally installed.

It is usually possible to lift an individual tile and replace with a new one if damage occurs. Please see the question ‘Is LVT easy to replace if it gets damaged or scratched?’ for more help with this.

It is possible to install LVT over some types of existing tiles, including quarry, ceramic or terrazzo – as long as they’ve been correctly prepared. Preparation will include checking the existing floor for moisture and damp-proofing if necessary, repairing worn or damaged areas, and removing or replacing insecure tiles. It’s important to then thoroughly clean the entire surface area to remove sealants, varnishes, oil, grease or wax. We recommended using a suitable mechanical method for this to provide a satisfactory surface that’s ready to be prepared for LVT installation. Our network of Amtico retailers can advise on this and arrange for your new floor to be professionally installed.

Amtico LVT is permanently glued down using adhesive, so it doesn't need underlay. Having said that, to achieve a perfect finish, good preparation of the base floor is really important. We recommend that Amtico LVT is installed by a professional fitter, someone who’s Amtico endorsed or fully trained – they will usually do the preparation work, too. Our network of Amtico retailers can advise on the preparation stages and arrange for your new floor to be professionally installed.

As an alternative to a glued-down LVT floor, our Amtico Click Smart. has a prefixed underlay that allows for a quick and easy installation.

Yes, you can. The installer will need to use one of the following suitable Amtico adhesives: High Temperature Extra, High Temperature or Universal 2 Part. Just to note, our Click Smart range isn’t a suitable option for conservatories.

You can use Amtico LVT on stairs, as long as a nosing is used on the edge. Our Amtico retailers will be able to help with this.

We don’t recommend installing Amtico on walls because the product is regulated and classified purely for use as flooring.

Amtico LVT is designed to use inside, so it’s not suitable for outdoor use or for laying in unheated areas of your home.

Following installation, your floor should be left for at least 24 hours so that the adhesive can dry. Please don’t clean the floor during this time or replace any furniture. When you do put your furniture back in the room, it’s better to lift into position, rather than drag.

If you think there might be a problem with how your new floor has been fitted, it’s important to contact the installation company first (preferably in writing). They must be given the opportunity to inspect the floor and address your concerns. Please allow up to 14 days for a response and keep a reference of all correspondence.

After this time, if you have unresolved issues, you can call the Amtico Aftercare Department on 02476 861409 (Mon-Fri, 8.30am-4.45pm) or email our Technical Department: technical.support@amtico.com
