The world of flooring is constantly evolving, we have been able to navigate the industry and grow to the global company we are today through the collective passion and expertise of every single person who has worked at Amtico. 

Half a century of pioneering flooring innovation

Collaboration is the essence of our adventure at Amtico. We are driven to explore and have been pioneers of flooring manufacture in the UK for over half a century. Our customers inspire and challenge us every day to achieve their creative ambitions, with crafted design, agile manufacturing and expert industry knowledge.

This is a story of continued success underpinned by our progressive, open and original values and determination to continuously improve.

Our journey from small beginnings



Amtico International begins as a joint venture between Coventry based chemical firm, Courtaulds, and US flooring company, American Biltrite.

Early Amtico flooring designs like Bucks County and Renaissance CT Corinthian were the height of fashion in homes across the UK.


Courtaulds acquires the whole UK business and gains licence to use Amtico brand in every country outside North America.



The expansion into Europe and the USA



To support growing sales in Germany, Amtico opens its first overseas sales office in Neuss, Dusseldorf.

A specialist Marine collection is developed, approved by the IMO, making Amtico usable in sea-going vessels. This collection is still a core part of Amtico’s offering today, with a revamped product range and unique laying pattern offering launched in 2020.



The first US manufacturing facility opens in Tucker, eastern Atlanta, cutting tiles exported from Coventry.



To support growing sales in France, Amtico International opens its second sales office in Boulogne, Paris.



Independence, innovation and industry leadership



Our new residential sales office and cutting facilities open in Solihull, UK. All of our website sample and brochure orders for the UK and Europe are sent from here. Our skilled team of floor laying experts create all the display boards that are shown on Amtico retailer’s stands across the UK.


To support growing sales Amtico International opens its third European sales office in Stockholm, Sweden.


John Harris retires and is succeeded by Jonathan Duck. He’s the second CEO in the company’s history and is still at the helm of our global business today.


The core Amtico flooring range is completely updated, with new designs and improved technical performance.

Spacia, a brand-new product collection, is launched in Australia, Europe and the US with the memorable tagline:

“For every space, there’s a Spacia”

Amtico Spacia is still an important part of our core LVT collection today.


Amtico’s first loose lay flooring collection, Spacia Access is launched, offering adhesive-free installation in commercial environments.

Now branded Amtico Access, this collection is a key part of our integrated design solutions, working seamlessly with Carpet and other LVT collections in a broad range of sectors including office and retail.


Carbon Footprint project is put into place in the UK, resulting in all Amtico packaging becoming 100% recyclable.



From LVT to integrated design



Amtico Assura, a product offering enhanced slip resistance is launched. Safety flooring has become even more important to our collections over the last five years with 36+ variants of Signature and Spacia now available for commercial specifiers.


Spacia Click is launched, an easy and quick to fit product designed for both commercial and residential markets. Today, Amtico Click Smart is available in both Magnet and John Lewis and is a popular choice for residential new builds.


Amtico International celebrates 50 years of UK flooring innovation. Uniquely Amtico, a new lifestyle identity is also launched in the UK to communicate to residential customers.


Amtico’s parent company, Mannington Mills, celebrates 100 years of flooring manufacturing.

Amtico One, an innovative digital retail experience is launched in the UK and Ireland to support residential customers, within premium retailers.


Amtico's flagship collection, Signature relaunches again with a contemporary look. Two new innovation products, Umbra and Chroma are key design achievements for LVT. 

Designers’ Choice is launched alongside Signature, the first-time customers can choose from pre- defined laying patterns created by our in-house design studio.


Continuing our journey to be specialists in flooring solutions, through close collaboration between design and manufacturing teams in the UK and the USA, a unique and innovative range of Amtico Carpet tiles was launched.

In our our-going commitment to produce sustainable and high-performance flooring, Amtico Cirro is launched; a non-PVC resilient flooring product, made for commercial specifiers in sectors like healthcare and education.


Amtico Signature is back with its seemingly endless product and pattern combinations. This time the focus was on introducing useable colour to flooring design with the exquisite Treated Grains and the playful Colour Edit.


At Amtico we've always been proud of our collaborative, innovative spirit and never more than this year when we united with our community to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Using our design and manufacturing expertise we made parts for life saving protective face shields and partnered with schools across the country to distribute them into regions and communities that needed them most.
